BASEBALL, BBQ & JAPAN RELIEF
03.22.11
By Sheryll Alexander
Want to help Japan and eat some good barbecue too? Head on over to any one of six Beach Pit BBQ locations on Mar. 28 and half of all sales will be donated to locally-operated charities in Japan to aid earthquake and tsunami survivors in Sendai, Japan. Plus, Saddleback Church’s PEACE Relief Mission Program has agreed to match Beach Pit BBQ’s contribution up to $30,000.
Inspired by his daughters Delaney, Riley and Paige, who set up a bake sale last year for Haiti relief, DeCinces held a similar sales and matching fundraiser at three Beach Pit locations. He and his guests, along with matching funds from the mission program, raised more than $38,000, which was used to build a water filtration system at a Haitian village devastated by the earthquake and hurricanes.
DeCinces says Japan is close to his heart as he lived there for a time as a youth while his professional baseball player father played for Japan’s Yakult Swallows. So, DeCinces is working closely with Sendai-based professional baseball team, the Rakuten Eagles, to give the money raised directly to the Sendai community to aid in relief efforts.

It’s A March Miracle!
03.21.11
It may be spring, but Big Bear Mountain has had a March Miracle with two feet of new snow coating the slopes and they're waiting for you to tear them up! If you've used up all your "I've got the 24 hour flu" excuses, Big Bear has two solutions for you: $99 Weekend Special and the Super Sunday Deal.
The recently introduced $99 Weekend Special allows skiers and snowboarders to ride Saturday and Sunday for one low price, while the Super Sunday deal offers a $49 lift ticket on Sundays through the end of the season. Tickets must be purchased online.
Spring break is almost over and there's no telling how long this March Miracle will last!
Big Bear is also hosting the 2011 Grenade Games this weekend (March 26), featuring two time Olympic Silver Medalist and Fuel TV star Danny Kass, one of snowboarding’s most hardcore athletes. There are a total of five events during the games: the Great Divide, Monster Mini Pipe Jam, Nike Chinesse Downhill, Monster Most Boned, and Jib Jam. Warning: it's going to be a wild weekend!
Guests are reminded to check out www.bigbearmountainresorts.com for the latest on events, lift ticket deals, weather and snow conditions and road information.
